Dr. Karen Genachowski

Dr. Karen Genachowski (she/her) is a clinical psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults. She uses evidence-based approaches within a welcoming and culturally responsive environment. Dr. Genachowski specializes in treatment of anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depressive disorder, and behavior and adjustment concerns, including coping with and adapting to chronic medical conditions. With a basis in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dr. Genachowski integrates exposure response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), parent management training, mindfulness-based intervention, and skills adapted from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) within treatment.


For young ones, Dr. Genachowski uses play and parent involvement to help children learn new skills. She also conducts psychological assessments with children and adolescents to inform diagnosis, treatment recommendations, school admissions, and academic accommodations. 


Dr. Genachowski earned her PhD from the Catholic University of America with a specialization in children, families, and cultures. Her graduate research focused on informant discrepancies and loneliness in childhood. She completed her pre-doctoral internship in the Department of Pediatrics at University of Minnesota Medical School with emphasis on evidence-based therapy for anxiety disorders and adapting to chronic medical conditions, as well as neuropsychological assessment of children and adolescents.


Dr. Genachowski completed her postdoctoral fellowship within private practice, and has also completed training at Children’s National Hospital, George Washington Medical Faculty Associates, Pediatric Specialists of Virginia. She is licensed in DC and Virginia, and is authorized to provide telehealth services through all PsyPact participating states.


Outside of the office, Karen enjoys exploring local parks and coffee shops with her young family, as well as knitting, crocheting, and cooking
