April Anderson DO

Adult Psychiatrist

April Anderson DO

Dr. Anderson began her career in private practice in the Chicago area and later relocated to the Washington, DC region. Before joining Alvord-Baker, she spent nearly a decade with The Chesapeake Center for ADHD, where she developed extensive experience treating adults with ADHD. Her clinical focus includes anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and ADHD. Dr. Anderson is board certified in Adult Psychiatry and is licensed to practice in the state of Maryland.

Dr. Anderson takes a calm, supportive, and collaborative approach to working with her patients.  She is committed to providing an inclusive, respectful, and nonjudgmental space, and she values and affirms individuals from all backgrounds, identities, life experiences, and belief systems.  She values building a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship and believes care is most effective when it is tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals. Dr. Anderson provides medication management and, as appropriate, offers psychotherapy to support patients as they work toward meaningful and lasting progress.

Dr. Anderson grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Carleton College with a degree in psychology.  She received her medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. She went on to complete her adult psychiatric residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

Outside of the office Dr. Anderson enjoys spending time with family and friends, singing in her church’s choir, going ballroom dancing, and playing with her dog.
