How We Give Back
Resilience Across Borders (RAB)
Dr. Mary Alvord founded Resilience Across Borders (RAB) in 2016 to increase access to psychological interventions for underserved youth. Since 1992, clinicians at Alvord, Baker & Associates implemented the RBP to small groups within the practice, and since 2015 to students in elementary schools across the Washington, DC, area. Through partnership with Alvord, Baker & Associates, RAB has expanded its reach to over 1,000 students and conducted research demonstrating the effectiveness of RBP on improving resilience skills, interpersonal skills, emotional self-regulation, classroom engagement, academic motivation, and study skills, as well as a decreasing negative emotions (Donohue et al., 2025; Rich et al., 2024; Rich et al., 2023; Rich et al., 2019; Senior et al., 2022). Alvord, Baker & Associates staff continue this mission through research on the Resilience Builder Program®-Universal (RBP-U), a scalable classroom format of the RBP, which can be universally administered to support building resilience skills in every student.
Expanding Access to Mental Health Care
Resilience Across Borders works to bring the principles of our Resilience Builder Program® into schools across lower-resourced areas. By providing teacher training for the Resilience Builder Program-Universal and mental health resources, the program empowers educators to support their students' emotional growth and resilience.
Supporting the Community Through Engagement and Collaboration
Resilience Across Borders is guided by research, stakeholder input, and a commitment to inclusivity. By listening to the needs of the communities they serve, they continuously refine and expand programs to provide high-quality mental health interventions in an accessible manner. Through collaboration with schools and local organizations, they aim to make a lasting impact on the lives of children across the region.
