As pediatric obesity treatment continues to evolve, psychologists play an essential role in delivering evidence-based care that supports both physical and psychological health. This workshop will provide clinicians with practical tools for assessing and treating youth with obesity across a range of healthcare settings. 


Participants will learn strategies for evaluating obesity-related psychosocial concerns, identifying barriers to health behavior change, screening for disordered eating and other mental health comorbidities, and identifying the role of weight stigma in receipt of care. The presentation will review evidence-based psychological interventions that promote sustainable behavior change, enhance family engagement, and support overall well-being. In addition, attendees will gain a better understanding of the psychologist's role within multidisciplinary obesity treatment teams, collaborating with medical providers when considering interventions such as medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists, and weight-loss surgery.
